RR Homestead
In the Brooder
Hey everyone! We aren't really new to owning chickens, but we have just recently started to raise and breed quail on our little homestead. I've come to this cite many times to help with situations that have occurred in the past, and have always found it extremely helpful.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? We have just moved to a new state in the past year, so we've had our chickens about the same time length.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? We currently have 11 chickens
(3) What breeds do you have? varying from Orpingtons, Americanas and Rhode Island Reds.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? Fresh Eggs every day. We use the deep litter method for compost for the garden. And they always greet you first thing every morning.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? We are also currently learning how to raise and breed Coturnix quail. with that being said we currently have 109 quail and 2 incubators with 50+ in each. They definitely keep our days busy
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share: Like I mentioned we have our little homestead with lots of birds... we also have our 3 dogs. So, to say our days get busy is an understatement lol.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? We've know about BYC for a few years when we first started getting chickens. We would do quick google searches on how to properly care to injuries and as we expanded to quail we found ourself searching BYC more than any other cites. So, we decided it was probably time to make an account so we could possibly help anyone who comes to the community, just as the community has helped so much in the past.
