DH told me that the newly hatched Delaware and Del/EE cross chicks are twice the size of the week-old banties, LOL. I want to see, but he won't let me go out in the deep snow because he's afraid I'll fall. My broody is a happy camper today with five babies to raise. It's definitely her life's calling.
Well, I sent DH out to take pics of the babies, but the lighting in there is terrible. All you can tell really is who is lighter than the other. Anyway, here are some pics. The one with the spot on its head is a Delaware x (BRxblue Ameraucana) baby and one pure Delaware. I'm posting these but this darn snow has to melt off some before I can take pics for myself.
Note the brave soul, the Del cross baby, venturing off by itself.
I took my life in my hands and went to the broody pen. Not one of the three bantams would come out from under mama, but the Del cross and the Del were all over the place. It was six degrees this morning and is now about 25, but they were out and running around. Amazing, isn't it? They are three days old now and the bantams are over a week old. The Del cross I'm sure is a boy--has a head spot, eye stripes, big thick cere and the "look". Was hoping for a pullet, but at least he should be really handsome and probably blue barred like his mama, Riley.
Went out this afternoon and got a quick shot of them, holding the heatlamp out of the way and taking the pic with my right, while squatting down trying to balance. This is all I got, sadly:
No, Mark, they do have single combs, at least I'm positive about two of them. The combs are teensy tiny and really hard to see. A Brahma bantam would be fine, too, but they all have puffy cheeks, looks like.
