Hey folks

Hi Guys and Gals,
I have been checking things out here for about two months and decided to give it a go. Old rooster that has been raising all type of livestock for fifty+ years. Got a life sentence with a good wife, four children and four grandkids. Avid gardener, as well as anything outdoors. Camping, fishing, foraging, hiking, you name it.

I did residential remodeling for thirty five years, and have been working the last five years with special needs adults, which is extremely rewarding. I also work with several non-profits helping individuals with gardening in the city. I was also a 4H advisor for five years and still look forward to the fair and today's youth.

We had dairy goats, chickens, ducks, and rabbits as kids and I kept it going as an adult. We had been raising hogs and lambs for sale until last year when we turned that over to my Son and Daughter in law. I have no birds now but really miss them. Especially my ducks . We also have a twelve year old mini Dachshund (Roxanne), and a fish tank of freshwater shrimp (neocaridina)

Looking forward to helping my grandkids with 4H projects and BYC popped up somewhere in my search for unique birds. My son and daughter in law were both in 4H as kids (poultry and equine).

Looking forward to chatting with everyone.
Hey there! Sounds like you've been real busy for some years. You can come on in and make yourself at home. We look forward to hearing about your farming adventures! Someday I'd really like to have a little farm full of chickens. Most I've had at a time is 4, but I'd love to have more. Out of all the animals you raised, were there any you preferred?

Thank you all for the wonderful welcome.

Kiki, I did check out the YT video before joining as well as the FAQ / info forum. Not very tech savvy so I'll be asking for help.

Sourland, You are right, a good foundation is needed no matter if it a building/coop or starting a breeding program.

BullChick/NFC, I have not checked out the additional non poultry forums yet but I will in time.

TwoCrows, 4H does help our youth to become responsible individuals, which is sorely needed these days.

thecarmiearmy, Be careful what you wish for! Take your time and plan, ponder, change plans if needed, then slowly move forward. It seems that this is a good place to start your journey so learn from others successes and our failures.

And yes ValerieJ chickens and ducks are going to be back in my life. The wife says no, but it's easier to ask for forgiveness then permission, right?

It's hard to pick a specific animal. Goats have great personalities but are very mischievous. Hogs are very intelligent but use their snouts to move mountians. I really miss my Muscovies though.
