I am very new to this site and don't really know how to use it but I will try. My name is Dot. I think you are having babies??New to chickens, too. Don't know the vernacular, yet. I have a young hen that is sitting on her nest and has been for 2 weeks, now. I have another chicken but it is supposed to be another hen. Doesn't have the comb of a rooster but is built like a rooster. Dosen't "crow" nor lay eggs.........What should I expect from the hen that is sitting......will she just give up after a while or will she be depressed b/c her eggs didn't hatch?

If you don't have any fertile eggs, you can try removing her from the nest. Put her in another pen or cage for a day or two. That usually gets them out of the idea if they can't get to the nest.

When we got home, boys ran upstairs to discover at least 10 baby coturnix quail. Cute little buggars!!! Braden (almost 8) and Bryson (6) are upstairs now watching through the bator window as one is pecking his way out. They are ELATED at watching this process. Pokey hasn't gotten home yet to see them, but just before he left work, we called and let Braden tell him about them. He's been rather like an expectant father anyway, pacing the floor, but he'll probably get a speeding ticket rushing home to see the new babies. I have to say that this hatching is pretty darn cool!!! Will update with pics of the teeny tiny little chicks......
