I've been cobbling together a coop from scavenged materials for a good while. Luckily, all I've had to buy so far are screws and a few 2x4s!
I plan to start small with 6 hens, no roosters yet if I can do that. I want 3 polish silkies and 3 smallish, but regular laying hens (something pretty also maybe).
This is a hobby to keep me occupied. I want my chickens to thrive and be happy! Plus it's giving me the chance to start learning woodworking, which is another hobby for me!
I'm gonna have to make a run because free range would be inconsiderate of neighbors plus I have a dog!
I plan to sit on my florida screened porch and watch my hens peck and scratch and cluck and whatever else they do. I'm thinking this will go well with my 6am coffee!
If I'm successful and take to it I will probably expand a little.
After I get this project humming I plan to start a honey bee gum and tend that for honey.
Just working on my country boy bucket list!
Glad to meet yall.
And I already started 2 threads before I introduced myself if you're interested. I've learned so much already.
