Hi everyone,
I live in NZ and grew up raising chickens / hens for eggs...
I moved from the city about 16 years ago to a small block and started hatching leghorns and a few pekin bantams..
I absolutely love my leghorns... They never go clucky and lay huge eggs for such a light frame bird... My girls are real adventurers, very quizzy... Actually some are pretty brazen...
But please don't tell them, that I have a real soft spot for my pekins... I have had lots of different pekins... But I have struggled to find bbs pekins in NZ, and have been thinking I might start my own bbs project from my mottled pekin hens...
I have a few blue and black mottled hens, and had eight just hatch (14th) from a doz eggs bbs and pencil I purchased.. Have one black and three pencil... The remainder I hope are splash and not mottled... Their first feathers are coming through black and white, but they have light silver down on their feet...
Anyway... I digress!
I have always googled questions about chickens, chick down, breeding, and genetics... And valuable info on BYC threads has always come up in my searches... So I thought, why not join the team, after sitting on the sideline for so long!!
I have to add though, that I am hopeless with my devices, leaving them inside and on silent... So please don't get offended by my late response to any threads I may start... I am not really active on social media, preferring to be outside where you will find me fluffing about in the orchard or garden hanging out with the dog, cat, sheep and of course my chick chick chickens!
