I am a long time chicken yearner. Now I am a new chicken learner. I received my first birds last September one week before hurricane Ian arrived uninvited. It’s been a fun ride since. I have four hens from last springs hatch; 3 RIR, 1 EE all laying daily. I also have 9 birds from last Sept hatch. 7 American Bresse ( 2 roo, 5 hen) a Black laced red Wyandotte and a speckled Sussex (hens) So far so good. I have 3 coops and a large fenced in yard. I have learned to cull and process to the freezer. Have encountered some health issues ( coccidiosis, bumble foot, overly amorous Roos ripping open wounds on hens). Happy to say I have learned to managed a lot of situations from following this page and the associated FB page.Through a lot of trial and error my backyard flock has become much more efficient and manageable. That being said I also love to garden, cycle, swim, travel and archery hunt.
