Shady Lynx
In the Brooder
Hey, the name is Shady Lynx, but feel free to just call me Shady/Slynx.
I let my girls have free range of our property which they love, and are always itching to get out of there coop every morning as soon as the sun breaks the horizon. Although I realise from many causalities as a inexperienced chicken owner that this comes with a cost sometimes; but I am always working on ways to improve on keeping out and deterring predators to make it a safe environment for the girls. I have raised a few chicks off broody hens and from day olds but I am really looking at getting into incubating once I get a new rooster. I have also been looking into getting some other breeds of chickens [maybe some ducks too] to introduce to my flock, as my boyfriends parents breed a lot of Pekins, Old English Games, Australorp etc birds - which I fell in love with when I went there for the first time.
Backyard Chickens has always been my go to site if I have a problem or just want to do a bit of research. So I decided to join and hopefully give something positive back to the community but also be able to ask questions if needs be.
I also have sheep, goats, bunnies and cattle on my acreage and they are all apart of my family. I went to an agricultural college in my final years of schooling and I enjoyed every moment of it and am motivated to use the experience and knowledge I gained there to good use. So I hope in the future I can get into farming and running my own stud, or just be able to work in the agriculture industry as I find so much interest in every aspect of it!
Phew, I got a bit carried away but I hope that was a reasonable introduction aha!

Although I am new to this site, I have been caring for layer hens and a few roosters for roughly 5 years on my small hobby farm. My flock at the moment consists of 14 Isa Browns, 3 Hy-line Browns and 1 Mixed [Wyandotte x Isa Brown x ?] hen.
