I'm hallerlake's friend in Lacey, and have finally taken the chance on getting some chickens after watching my next-door cousin's flock thrive for a year despite coyotes, raccoons, Red Tails, Bald Eagles, Cooper's Hawks, and the occassional visit from a Longtailed Weasel, all of these even though we're right smack in the middle of Puget Sound suburbia a couple of miles off I-5.
I bought a pair of teenage BLRWs from Rainwolf, and am looking for a couple or three hens; I've got mobility issues caused by fifty-odd years of farming while clumsy, and as cute as chicks are neither my health nor my other obligations (especially the monitoring of my small herd of Beef Shorthorn cows and their crossbred calves; I'm the tag-end specialty part of a larger mostly Angus operation). I'm also/primarily a photographer, and will be posting some pics as soon as I'm allowed.
And I am, no matter what my current location looks like, a Stumpfarmer by breeding and habit; my metier is recycled materials and ease of construction, and I'll never be the person you look to for fine architecture in chicken housing!
I was just going to lurk here, as I'm trying to cut down on my online presence (I first met hallerlake on the AOL gardening boards back in the nineties) but I've developed a few questions not easily answered by just reading everything. Everything, here, is far to much to lurk through.
