Since I got my first chicks a few weeks ago, I have found myself getting more absorbed with reading all the helpful information on this site, so I figured I'd sign up!
Right now, I have four little ones, two Rhode Island Reds, a Leghorn, and a little Buff Orpington who also seems to be very bold and always gets first dibs. I am surprised by that one. They are about 4-5 weeks old and are starting this growth spurt. Currently they are living with me in my home office in a large dog kennel.
I live in the Los Angeles Harbor area and I am absolutely blessed to live on a property with a large plot of yard despite living in a heavily industrialized area. I am very much interested in sustainable living and gardening and raising chickens is the latest adventure in that regard. I am also working on a vegetable garden out there and our big nectarine tree just shed it's blossoms and is growing leaves now.
