New here, so I thought maybe I should tell y'all about me some. I have a few chickens, mostly aracaunas, but also some BB's, a couple of buffy's, a black australorp, a silky, and a RIr. I also have a goose(Lucy) and a tom turkey. And I have ten rabbits, and a pig. And two cats. And five 'scovie ducks. And I am married to the world's most patient man! I have four grown children, one of whom still lives at home. And one grandchild. that about covers it, I think. Hope to hear from some of y'all soon!

Thanks for the kind welcome everyone. I'm actually in Alabama. And i have some very sad news. My RIR roo, General Lee, went to chicken heaven yesterday. A feral cat got him. I least Ithink it was a cat. Anyways, All I found of him was a few feathers, no body, no bones, nothing else. 2 am very upset. I had raised him from an egg. He was such a beautiful cockerell!

I am so very sorry. But, I doubt it was a cat - maybe a really big cat like a bobcat but it would be pretty hard for a cat to take down a grown rooster and carry him off. Many other predators like bobcats and foxes can do so. Did it happen in the daytime or at night? Was he freeranging or in a pen? If you have a predator, it will be back.​

It was during the daytime. He was one if my free-rngers. I think I'll be putting some poison out for the chicken killing thief! I've already got everyone else put up in the pens for now.
