My name is Amanda & I've come here for answers to my questions for the past few years and finally decided to get my own account. I'm in Cedar Creek TX, just outside of Austin and I've been in the chicken game for a good 7 or 8 years now. I harvest my birds with the exception of a few that have won my heart over the years...although I'm sure their time will come some day as well. I just started incubating 2 days ago since my current flock doesn't seem to want to lay for me and the freezers got a bit too much space in it. I've got a million questions so I'm anxious to meet you guys and pick your collective brain! My flock is made up of one big bad roo, Cleatus, a brown leghorn; Nugget, a black Australorp that was the sole survivor out of a clutch of 18 that a dog got a hold of, 1 Easter egger, 2 b-rocks, 2 other Australorps, and a couple I'm not sure of... Another reason I stalk you guys!

Hey! Thanks for the warm welcome! I will post some pics of Cleatus, he's a good looking boy. He's been an incredible protector for me, we share land with a family of hawks and I've seen them go at each other twice now and we've found a good handful of dead rats and snakes in the coop that he's been proud of. We also trapped a one-eyed raccoon that I'm sure was his doing. He gets a bit aggravated with us raising other roosters and he's spurred my husband a few times for it but as soon as those other guys hit the freezer he calms back down. If he weren't so big and so good with the girls he would have had his own shelf in the freezer for that but his track record keeps his spot at the top! Thanks again for the welcome, see ya round!
