Hey y'all, new to the chicken world. My grandpa was moving out of state and gave use six chickens. We have 5 Buff orpington's and 1 plymouth rock. They are all a year or older. Got them for the eggs and to give our kids something they love and responsibility. Built a chicken coop out of scrap and recycled materials, but not yet finished.

:welcome and good luck with your poultry adventure! :frow I love buff orpingtons! They are one of my two favorite breeds. Looks like you got a curious bunch there.

! Pleased you joined us! I agree with drumstick - but if they coop is safe and secure at night you can probably get by with hardware cloth on the perimeter from the ground up maybe 15". Some folks bury the HW cloth as well to keep the beasts from digging under it. Good luck to you!

Thanks for the heads up on the wire it will be helpfull when we move, right now the only thing I have to watch for is cats, but looking at a place a little farther out.
