In the Brooder
Hey everyone! I am new to BYC and to chicken keeping (?) in general. Thought I would tell ya'll a little bit about myself and my gas.
I am married to my awesome husband for almost 2 years now and we first got our gals in March of this year. My friend from high school had them initially and unfortunately was looking for someone to re-home them because the city she was moving to would not allow her to keep them. So, we drove down to Orange County from the High Desert and picked up three 2 year old gals, Pearl (Rhode Island White), Violet (Australorp) and Hattie (Rhode Island White). Unfortunately Pearl didn't tolerate the stress of the move very well and passed away the following week. My husband thinks I am a little nuts, but we buried her in the backyard under a big Joshua tree.
On our property we also have 2 big black dogs, Lucius, a 8 year old Lab/pit/mastiff and who knows what else mix and Lola, a 7 year old black and tan coon hound/brittany mix. They are always intrigued by the gals, but don't bother them and aren't allowed in the run.
A little bit more about me: I am super crafty, love to build things, work in an ER, love to cook, bake, and am a budding canner as well. I also sell Origami Owl custom jewelry, but if you want to more about that please send me a message, because that it not the reason why I am here.
We are using Violet and Hattie as "guinea pigs" so to speak because we would eventually like to expand our flock to a half dozen or so, but didn't want to dive into the pond head first without first checking for rocks. I am looking forward to learning all kinds of things about chickens and chicken keeping from BYC!
