Doodette here. I'm gonna follow the new intro template as my mind needs a little direction, so here goes:
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
New to chickens (again). Lived on ranch in Montana in the 1990's and had free range chicks. Now I live in Amarillo TX and have backyard (penned) chicks.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I think I have 5 hens and one rooster. I say "think" because one of the hens crows like a rooster? Or so my husband says :) We actually rescued the questionable hen and rooster from our local humane society for $5. And so it started...we bought four more hens (younguns) from a local business. Thought we would have eggs by now. Not. Husband says we have million dollar chickens because they're sooo spoiled w/good food, a 40' x 20' run, two coops, and lots of toys. When we were in Montana, we had about two dozen chickens that free ranged. Those hens laid eggs all the time. Oh well, we'll see if our current chics will lay. If anyone has any thoughts, please let me know why my chickens won't lay!! Tx weather is soo unpredictable and can change temps daily by 20, 30, even 40 degrees. My chickens appear to be healthy.

(3) What breeds do you have?
Ummm, 2 Aracana (?), 2 Bards, and 2 unknown but beautiful hen (?) and rooster.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Searching for different articles.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Since we're retired we have been rescuing/fostering mainly dogs from local pounds. So far we've fostered 5 dogs. And so far we've adopted those 5 foster dogs. We have a statue of St. Francis in our flower garden in our front yard. And honestly, ever since we've put him in our garden it seems we've been feeding every and anything with four legs and wings: feral cats and kittens (because our rural neighbors don't spay or neuter), geese, doves, chickadees, deer, and so on. While I'm not feeding the neighborhood I make kachina dolls and rope pots, and I love to cook.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I used to type law enforcement transcripts of police or detective multi-voice interviews. My husband still works. We are childless as we met when we were 40. Married now for 27 years. We have 5 dogs, 3 inside cats and 1 outside cat who invites the neighborhood ferals over for snacks.

Welcome to an unlimited source of chicki info. I have learned to just bring on the questions...the members here have a depth of knowledge and, thank goodness, do not mind giving it away. Here in Central Texas north of Austin, the weather is still quite warm. Has been a game of turning on the heater at night for the babies, then getting it turned off as soon as the sun rises before the temp heads up. Does allow them to get out by midday for a bit of sunshine. We are so glad you're here. Look forward to keeping up with North Texas happenings.
