Hey y'all

Here are my chicks. I think the front ones are easter eggers?? The mostly white on the left is the one we thought was a hen and may be a rooster. The guy on the right's our rooster.

What does everyone think? I've never heard the white one crow though. But she/

G'day Teila!! Love Aussies. I have a friend from down under by the last name of "Perman." this is such a great site.

By the way, you have a great quote. So so true.

How can you tell, curious? Well, that explains the no egg part. Oh my gosh, I'm laughing too hard.:th

Look at their neck (hackle) feathers and their side (saddle) feathers. Note how elongated and pointy they are. This is a secondary sex characteristic of rooster feathers. Hen feathers in the same areas are more rounded.

One easy way to sex chickens are to look at feathers! See how their neck feathers are pointed, vs how the hens are round? Males have pointed hackle (neck) and saddle (the feathers before the tail that drape down) feathers, and they're generally longer than a hens are.

Thanks Fallenone05. I appreciate the info. I'm new to really getting into my chickens. When in Montana, and although I cared for them, they were just for eggs. Now I'm actually loving and enjoying my peepers and they're my pets now. Thanks again.
