(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
* Not exactly new to chickens. Had chickens growing up although it was a totally new experience as an adult. My flock has been growing for the last 3 years.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
* After a rough hawk year
, we are down to 15 chickens (with 12 more coming in July), 6 turkeys (those are going to freezer camp later on and I will have 3 Bourbon Reds as pets coming in July also), and 2 ducks.
(3) What breeds do you have?
* I have a variety. I have 4 Silkies, 2 Light Brahmas, 1 half Light Brahma/ half Pheasant (someone fornicated in the woods lol), 2 Dominiques, 6 Wyandottes, 12 Blue Ameraucanas, 6 BBW turkeys, the 3 Bourbon Red turkeys coming, and 2 Khaki Campbell ducks.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
* Well the obvious fresh eggs. I love that everyone has their own personalities. I have learned who has laid an egg
by the song they sing. They let me when someone or something is here. I love how they run to greet you when you come home. I know who is arguing over the favorite nesting box lol. They are very special birds lol. Bonus: Even though I live in the woods you can sit in my grass tick free lol
.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
* Fishing, hunting, kayaking, backcountry camping, and 4 season hiking in the Northeast.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
* I'm married with 4 daughters. I am a Respiratory Therapist/Nurse. I have 2 German Shepherds that are just as spoiled, if not more so, than my kids. We spend pretty much all of our time outdoors.
