So after constantly seeing BYC come up when googling various chicken topics I finally decided to join! My great granddaddy fostered my love for chickens when I'd visit him on his farm and see his beautiful guineas roaming around and the serenity they all gave off. (Except his roos..he always had feisty roos haha) Finally moved to a town that allows chickens and got my babies in April. We got at least 2 each of around a dozen breeds to have variety in our flock. My big girls are amazing and I'm still learning what their language means. Sometimes the sounds are hard to tell if they come from love or from evil but they are treated as royalty so hopefully the former haha currently building their nesting boxes as we anticipate laying to start within a month or so! I finally joined this community because of my bantams. After a long winter battling cancer and having my choice of more children taken away from me I fell in love with the teeny babies one emotional day getting feed at TSC. Well..I couldn't resist and brought home 8 precious little gems. 3 varieties it seems (im not 100% sure what they are yet tho!) and wouldn't you know...I have 6 roosters now 😳🤦‍♀️. Now I need the support of this community to navigate through these moody little boys, 2 are crowing at 6 weeks and it makes my heart melt but also tremble a little recalling the feisty roosters of yore 🤣🤣 in any case, thank you for the welcome into the community and be on the look out for the inevitable questions and pictures!! With love, Momma

Glad to meet you. Do you want (or need!) to "rehome" some of those roosters? You might try your local Craigslist. To make sure they get a really nice home (and not a soup pot), include the best glamor shot you can get of any boys you are giving away. You can also post them to the state/region thread(s) relevant for you. Best wishes for your beloved birds!

Thank you! I'm torn between rehoming a couple now or waiting it out til the 6 month puberty mark so to speak and seeing if they are manageable but i dont want to make it harder on them either at that age. My biggest concern is not stressing my girls out with so many boys, we are keeping at least 2 tho for some additional protection for the girls. And I do love my boys, no matter how flighty they are haha
