Hello all! I'm new to chickens and BYC. After much research, I decided to get a few chicks. I came home with 10

. A lot of my info came from this site, so I thought I would go ahead and join. I know I'm googling a new question at least once a day! They have been a lot of fun for my daughter and I; I could watch them for hours.

So, the reason I decided to get chickens...we have been trying to eat better and save a little money. So we planted a garden, which is doing great! Also, being in Oklahoma, we have all kinds of bugs. And I hear chickens are great pest control. I'm hoping they'll help with ticks, chiggers, scorpions, spiders, etc. Another reason: "cheap" entertainment! haha! I look forward to morning coffee on my deck and watching the girls peck the ground

. Plus it gives me something to do while my daughter is in school.

This seems like a great online community and I am excited be here!

! Pleased you joined us! I think my chickens have reduced the bugs around my farm...except chiggers...a little small for a chicken I think. Good luck to you and your flock!

True, I guess chiggers would be too small. I haven't really had issues with chiggers or ticks, but I have had scorpions and spiders. And being deathly afraid of spiders, I really hope they'll eat those!
