Heya! I recently got 2 silkie straight run chicks about two weeks ago and have been raising them with my roommate since. I'm new to raising chickens, but my roommate isn't (they've had chickens before)! We are both art institute students, and are currently raising them in our apartment but in about a couple more weeks, we will give them to my friend (who is also incubating about 13 silkie eggs from the same breeder) who will keep them for a few more months and then will be given to a farm friend to live out the rest of their days in a suitable environment. So I guess you could say I'm technically fostering them, but I'm happy to see them grow up for the first few weeks. One is a blue and one's a white one, I believe, and the white one was the runt so the soft spot in me of course had to take it. Anyways, I'm looking forward to learning more about chickens and meeting the community here!

(not a photo, but a drawing I made of them when we first got them lol)

Doesn't look like a runt - in every hatch there is a biggest and a smallest - that can change fast. I do notice a bit of red, under the dark chick's beak.I don't think that would be wattles coming in so very early. Maybe it got scraped on the something?

Welcome to BYC! There’s so many helpful, knowledgeable folks here and I’m sure you’ll find this site a very useful resource. I hope you enjoy it as much as we all do.
