Super new to chickens, a neighbor abandoned 8 hens and a rooster when moving. Have been taking care of them for a few months before permanently deciding to keep them. Unfortunately our Rooster killed a hen and began keep the others away from the food, so we are down to 7 hens.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
7 Hens

(3) What breeds do you have?
Unsure, I havent really spent the time to search

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
So far its definitely how enriching it is to see sad, stressed out hens thriving.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Horses and Dogs. I have one rescue horse that I'm currently Barrel racing on and two rescue dogs. I seem to acquire animals in odd ways.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I currently manage a private show jumping barn in central Texas. I previously work for he city of Houston at the animal shelter

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?

I understand your plight. I am getting rid of my rooster tomorrow after he scalped one of my hens. I'm trying to save her, but it's pretty bad.
