New to BYC and chickens. Just collecting information to get started. I am in south Alabama and was wondering if there is a certain time of year that is better to start from scratch.

Welcome to BYC!

Spring time is always the best time to start with chicks, giving them a chance to grow up before winter sets in. Started or adult birds will do well any time of year.

You might want to start in our learning center here on BYC. Lots of great articles on getting started and raising your new flock...

You will also want to chat with your chicken neighbors in your state thread to see how they do things at different times of the year...

Enjoy this new adventure you are on and if you have any questions, feel free to ask. Welcome to our flock!

I don't think there is really a better season to start, especially in a warmer climate like u r in. I started late summer/early fall and had everything ready for winter.
but spring is usually when people get their chicks so they are growing while its warmer

Glad you joined us! The best time of year is now. Spring time when everyone's hatching and the weather is better. Enjoy!
