1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
This is my first year with chickens! Brought 6 baby chicks home May 3,2025.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

I lost three of my original babies to a bear, and replaced them with three pullets, so I’m still at six.

(3) What breeds do you have?

I currently have two Plymouth Rocks, a Blue Laced Red Wyandotte, two Easter eggers, and one olive egger (silver cuckoo marans X crested cream Legbar)

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

They help me set my routine, and I love watching them free range in the backyard. Plus the tasty eggs!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I also knit, hike, read, run, and love working around my property (mountains west of Denver, CO)

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I live with my partner, two cats, and a Great Pyrenees in the middle of the woods. I was nervous to start my flock given the wildlife up here but after the bear incident, we were able to fix the weak point in the coop and have had no issues since. I travel for work, and am always most excited to get home to the peace of my flock and whole menagerie.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

When we first began discussing spring chicks, I came upon the forum almost immediately, and visited the website daily for coop inspo, how to, is this normal, hen or roo, ALL the questions.
