(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

Hi, my name is Larry and my wife's name is Gwynne and we are new to 'raising' chickens, however I am very experienced with chickens....Smoking, B-B-Qing, broiling, and frying.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

Not counting the three in the freezer, none as we are trying to get 'our ducks in a row' before we get our chickens.

'Ducks in a row'; the run, the coop, type of food, and the best birds for here is South Texas.

(3) What breeds do you have?

That will be one, (of the many) questions that I will have to get answered so I shall be posting and 'lurking' to get the answers, and the best birds for us.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

We have been getting the Community Chickens newsletters for several months now, and as we have started prepping our yard, for our next project, we thought we better join so we don't have to start from scratch.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I belong to the 'Smoking Meat (.com) News Forum" and I love to B-B-Q and do 'slow smoking' of meat; pork, beef, fish, & chicken. I've been with them for about 3 years, and have gotten TONS of information and ideas from them.

I also like to work with Model Railroading, photography, gardening, and RC Sailing.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

Born in Minnesota, moved to Iowa in '58, joined the Navy in '67, got out in '71and moved to Montana. Lived there for 18 years, divorced and moved to Texas, remarried (23 years ago)and been living in Rockport about 20 years.

I've worked as a draftsman, 10 years, and also a small engine mechanic, for 35 years. Had my own Goldwing repair shop, (wingnut) for 5 years and now I am retired.

We've got 4 'indoor' cats and two fish, I don't PLAN on having any more pets, but there is always tomorrow.....
