We need help with keeping our animals cool during these 100+ days. We need help keeping chickens, small dogs, indoor cats, and hamster. PLEASE HELP! With the dogs i can dunk them in water. and one of the cats i can take in the shower with me, and NO i don't get torn up! lol

Um. Here in Utah we have some insanely hot weather too. I have sprinklers for the chickens and I never let the water go less than half way, I add ice to it and I like to buy water-rich fruits for them, see pictures here. For dogs and cats and other indoor animals keep them indoors and turn up the AC, that's my solution. I would however put an overheating hen in water if she could get to the shaded area and ice water.

I'm in North Texas, and last summer we averaged 110+ every day and lost none of our flock. I provided them with plenty of well-ventilated shaded areas with a couple of kiddie pools full of freshwater to stand in. They would stand during the hottest part of the day in the pools or where our air conditioning unit was condensing. I suppose their legs and skin act much like our own, as a radiator. Our water is so expensive here, I didn't want to run a mister.

You can freeze water in two liter bottles, and set them on the ground in the shade. You can freeze melons, or cabbage also. Fans spray bottle mists. It gets hot here too. The great thing about the two liter bottles is you can refreeze them. Then you won't use as much water. Good Luck!

All great ideas, i will put wetted then frozen hand towels in cheap baking sheets around the house for the critters. I tried it with the chickens but they just removed the hand towels and pecked holes in them. Silly birds.
