Hi! 🐄

Here’s a few of them :) we got 10 total. One is supposed to be a mystery chick and the rest black australorps. I feel like our mystery chick is probably an australorp as well lol. They seem to love the mama heating pad. I’m praying it’s warm enough under there for them!

Welcome to BYC, and good luck with your chicks. As long as they are not cheeping excessively, they are warm enough. They will let you know if they are cold.
What would you consider excessive? Lol I’m such a newbie. They get nice and quiet then make what sounds like happy chirps. Not like the loud chirps when we pick them up lol

If they are all piling up on each other and cheeping very loudly, then there's an issue. Plain ol light peeping is very normal. Stressed chicks look stressed, happy chicks are milling around. :)

Welcome!! I am new too and I don't have chickens yet. Australorps are high on my list of wanted breeds.....I think you chose very well. I'm a retired teacher/principal and appreciate home schoolers. It's quite a commitment but surely provides a more well rounded "hands-on" education than schools are able to do in these days of test-driven instruction. Good for you! Enjoy your chicks and keep sending those pics....we love to see them! :jumpy

:celebrate We are so excited for you!! You need to add photography to the schedule today. We are anxious to see pictures, and find out what breeds you have!
Welcome to BYC!!
Here’s the brood! My daughter is in love šŸ˜ she’s gonna be a great chick mama. They are all black australorps. They threw in a meal maker chick which was of the Hatcherys choosing but they all look alike so maybe the meal maker was an australorp too.

Oh good! So far they look pretty happy darting in and out from under the heating pad. They’re drinking, eating and just doing their chicky thing.
