Hi everyone, I'm 11ChickenGirl11 an I live in the northeast US. I have 4 RIR hens, 1 silkie roo, and 10 5-6 week old chicks! 2 americaunas, 2 australorps, 2 barred rocks, 3 black stars, and 1 cuckoo maran! My family and I don't know if there are roosters or not but we are 99.99999999 percent sure of one of the BRs. So I was wonder if when we move the little guys to the big coop, the "soon to be roosters" would bully my silkie? I know silkies are known for their gentle nature so I'm not sure he would defend himself real good. He is extremely friendly to us as well. Everyone in my family can pick him up and he never pecks us at all. Even when some of my friends came over for a project, he didn't peck them. Would my new chicks hurt/bully my silkie? Thanks.

Hello :frow and welcome to BYC!

I would worry more your older chickens would bully the young ones. Even the silkie. Before you just put the chicks in, put them in a cage in the coop to get everyone adjusted. As they get older, (13weeks) the young chicks may be bullies.

Not till they are a lot older but really I think the silkie roo could fight them off for a while but normally then the roo grow to big they will new and bully him.

And welcome to BYC.

Just some images of the chicks. The 2 whiteish ones are americaunas, the 3 speckled ones are BRs and CM, the mines that are plain black are australorps, and the black ones with red neck feathers are BSs. Sorry the pics have a reddish tone; its from the brooder light.

Silkies (and polish) tend to get picked on period. They have the Big crests and usually obscured vision from them - so they are easily picked on and bullied. Plus the fact that silkies in USA are bantams - whereas in other countries they are large fowl and can probably kick fluffy butts quite well.
