I already posted about not getting any eggs and skipped right over introducing myself!
My name is Kim, my handle is twhgait, which stands for Tennessee Walking Horse gait. I live with my husband and two teenagers on our 3 1/2 acre farmette along with our 3 tennessee walking horses, 2 dogs, 2 cats and now 4 chickens!!
We've lived here 7 years...I'm not really sure WHY it took so long to get chickens but we finally did 2 weeks ago today. Now that I have them I can't believe I waited so long!
We renovated our kids old playhouse to make our chicken coop and put a fence around about 20ft of the house so they can get out during the day.
We are not really sure of their breed. We were told they were "Concord" hens but google cannot come up with anything on Concord hens LOL! We got them from a polish hen person who got them from a egg production farm. They are ex-battery hens but don't look bad at all. I imagine this is a smaller production farm so they hopefully didn't live the FULL life of a battery hen.
Here are my babies:

Left to right: Spotty, Paula Ryan, Alice Cupcake Sweetheart and last is Hen-ry. (my kids named 3 of them LOL) They were said to be 6-8 months old but not being a chicken person, I'm not sure! No eggs yet but they have completely settled in and we are now allowed close to them and Hen-ry acutally allows us to touch her! Alice Cupcake Sweetheart is the more assertive one (she's my 11 y.o. daughters hen so I can see the resemblence
) and Alice likes to get into arguments with MY hen Paula Ryan (again, I can see the resemblance to my daughter!)...no blood and no big issues and I'm hoping they'll just work it out, but I'm watching and I do know to go rooster on them if I have to! Spotty is the lone wolf...she doesn't really NEED to be with the other hens and it's not unusual to find her staying in the hen house vs with the rest of them.
Thanks for reading and I'm so glad I found this place!
