I have chickies!!!! I am so excited! DH bought me 2 barred rocks and 2 rhode island reds. They are so cute. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am new to this so still trying to learn. Here they are....

Awww it won't let me post pics yet, well I am not a spammer, just someone very excited about my new babies.

First, I think you have to do 10 posts or more in order to post pics.

Also I just wanted to mention, make sure that you check their vents for pasty butt. There vents will get blocked by poo and they can die from this if it is not properly treated. You can fix pasty butt by wetting a papertowel with warm water and getting the poo off or if it dont work you may have to submerge their rear in a little warm water. This only last for about the first week or so.

CONGRATS ON THE NEW CHICKS!!!!!!!!! They are a blast!

From Michigan! Congrats on the new chicks. Better start planing your coop for them as they grow fast! BTW build or get one bigger than will hold just your few chicks as Chicken Math adds up fast.

Thanks everyone for the welcome, When we were buying them I was lucky enough to have a lady that was at the feed store and raised chicks, she noticed several with poo stuck to the butts, she suggested save a chick and said that it would keep them regular. I bought ones without poo stuck and bought the save a chick stuff, they are poo'ing no prob. My biggest trouble is wanting to snuggle them all the time. They are just so sweet and tame. We are going back to get 2 more to make 6. DH is already planing the coop.

From C-ville, Oklahoma!!!

Chicks are a blast! Always have fresh water and food for your chicks and heat. Make sure that the brooder around your heat source is 90-95 and there is room in your brooder that is cooler for them to go in to if they get too warm. Pine shavings is a good bedding and use at least 21% protein chick starter either medicated or non medicated. Have fun!!!

Nate

They have freash water with save a chick added, chick starter food. heat lamp in one corner and cooler area to go to. Pine shavings for bedding. So it looks like we're off to a good start. They all made it through the night.
