Hi all, newbie needing tons of help!!!

Do guineas do anything but make noise? My aunt had some and they were soooo loud lol

Welcome to BYC! I love Orpingtons myself, they are so big and fluffy

my buff Orpington is the friendliest in my flock.
ya I my daughter called them fluffy chicken teddy bears {cause there so soft she said and cuddly} LOL

Re: Hawks and stringing fishing line across the top: I've thought of doing this (I fish a lot and have lots of line) but also thought of tying something shiny along the fishing line to deter the hawks. I've seen people do this with strawberry patches to keep birds out and they had old CD's tied to the line. They are very reflective and sparkle in the sun light. Thoughts?

I live in iowa and have the even colder winters and have never lost a orphington to cold or hot  and they r a pretty gold color

How hot does it get there? We've broken 100 and summers 90's aren't all that unusual around us...

I have guineas. I was getting ticks on me every time I went to take care of my chickens. I got my guineas and only had a few ticks on me instead of every day. My guineas know me now so they don't yell about me being down there. My guineas have alerted me to predators and helped save my flock of chickens from attacks from hawks, raccoons and possums.

Omg! I want Easter eggers!

The possums and coyotes and foxes I'm not too worried about bc I have dogs, just the hawks, and I think if I get big chickens that should handle that bc the hawks shouldn't attack something they can't carry off
