Hope you enjoy your time here! 😊
Sorry to hear about your chick!

UPDATE 2: One of the Buff Rock (Soleil) is a flyer. Tonight she flew off the brooder box and landed on the floor like the drop was nothing. She walked onto my daughters hands right after. Drop is about 20”. It was the only setup we could do with the heat lamp 😖 We covered the box now and she still tried to get out. She must have bumped her head on the second try.I had a feeling Soleil would jump out cause she was attempting it during the day. Any time I looked at the box, she would jump towards me.

She should be around 5-7 days old; I had no idea they would attempt to fly so soon.

The other buff rock (Star) hasnt been interested in getting out at all, mostly walking around. The black sex linked (Saturn) is behaving a tad different, doesn’t seem as active as the past 2 days. My husband and oldest think she is and I just look when she is resting. I hope they are right.

The playhouse is about halfway ready to be a coop. Fence is going up this month given we would rather do it in spring than summer.

Little chick passed away. The others seem to be doing good. That one chick looked letargic from the get go, I had hopes it was just the docile nature but sadly no.
It was SO loved already, 2/3 girls cried, the toddler didn't register. We shall see how the other chicks do.
So sorry for your loss. :(:hugs

Update: Soleil, Star and Saturn are doing good. Watching them the past few days we have a theory that Saturn is growing at a different pace - either was born a day after or maybe just the breed. Both Buff Rock have wing feathers developing while the Black sex linked has fluff still. My oldest thinks the other tow ma be bullying it but not 100% sure. How do we avoid bullying?

Not sure who tow ma is, but if these are all the same little chicks, a few days old, how I've handled bullying is to twap the offender if I'm standing there to see it.

I had one that was insane, and biting their toes so hard it would pull the other chicks off their feet. I was afraid that one was going to actually break the toes off so pulled it out. We got a different heater and I put one other one with it so it wouldn't cry. I put black magic marker on the toes of the innocent one. That worked. I kept them two out for about one day, put them back to see how it went, and it worked! I was ready to keep going with this arrangement if needed, but thankfully, one full day out straightened this one's demeanor.

Girls are good, real feathers coming in, they look taller and continue to be friendly. 1/3 seems scared for her life any time we come close. I think pecking order has been established, we have a clear leader and the other two follow whatever she does. Coop building in a week. We need a break after the fence 🤣 We have a few weeks till pullets can be outside so a break wont be too bad.
