Hey everyone, My name is Laura and I guess I will try to get through these questions.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am new to chickens. I have wanted them for years and finally took the plunge this last spring.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I currently have 7 chickens. one was a rescued/found chicken from last fall that is an older lady we found on our second property. now I'm making a guess here as to her age as she is no longer laying as of this last winter when she was in my kitchen. The other 6 we got in march from good ole TSC. A few are just starting to lay so I've been eggcited to find eggs!
(3) What breeds do you have?
So my one old lady I'm not completely sure of her bread but I'm thinking she is a waynotte?? But my others ate a split of 3 buff ophingtons and 3 rhode island reds.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
on facebook! I joined a group for chickens and they are always talking about this page and of course some google searches have brought this page up.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
ok hobbies. I love to cook, camping, fishing, taking care of my zoo (4 cats, 1 dog, and of course 7 chickens), hiking, reading.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I am married with 2 girls that love taking care of the chickens, I also have 4 cats and a rottie that actually is a great protector of the chickens. I often find her laying my the coop keeping a look out. I work as a training specialist for people with developmental and mental disabilities at a group home. I must say I love my job. it can be so rewarding and challenging at the same time.
so that's me.
