(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
This is my first spring with my own flock of chickens. I raised quail for about a year before switching to chickens.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have 10, 7 week old chicks.
(3) What breeds do you have?
6 Brahmas ( 2 each of light, buff and dark) 2 Jersey Giants and 2 Barnvelders
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I just love watching and listening to them. I find them calming.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I do a little bit of everything. I build stuff - I built my coop with my S/O's help. I hunt both archery and rifle, I garden - not well, but I'm learning. I love to run my smoker and cook.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. My S/O and I live in Maine (USA). No kids but lots of animals. 2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 giant fish tanks and the chickens. I'm slowly working on our homestead. I think that being able to somewhat self sufficient is important. Slowly starting to raise my own animals for enjoyment and/or food. We eat meat and want to know that the animals had a good life and got to enjoy themselves except for one really bad day.
