I grew up with poultry, and now that my 10yo daughter and I have a home and small piece of land in the country, I'm back at it. We built a coop last fall, and have about 25 chickens, mostly light brahma and a few silkies. We have more silkies on order, and would someday like to get a few peafowl and maybe a couple of pet emus. I grew up with the standard free-range farm flock consisting of chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys and guineas in Southern Wisconsin. No experience with peafowl or emus so we're educating ourselves first, and looking at expanding our flock further down the road. Fun fact, 6 of our ladies are away at camp for the summer, meeting and greeting inner city Milwaukee youth who are experiencing their first taste of country life. They'll be returning to our flock next month after the season is completed.
