Hi all

If I would just raise chicks for meat soon as they are big enough does that count as chicken keeping? If I want a pet chicken that doesn't lay eggs (but not a rooster) are their good options?
I don't think there's a breed of chicken that doesn't lay eggs. 🤔
But I think Silkies maybe don't lay as many. You might look into them. :)

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

Yes, as @chrissynemetz said above, Silkie is probably the best choice for a pet that lays the least amount of eggs because they're broody half of their life if allowed to be.

That means their body tells them they have to sit in a nest to hatch non-existent eggs, and they stop laying eggs. It takes 19 days to hatch a silkie egg so they'll sit on an empty nest for at least that long. Then, magically get off for a few weeks to just repeat that again.
