My brother purchased them at a chicken auction. He was told that they are Ameraucana hens approx 10 weeks old. I am brand new to chickens, and I just wanted to see if they are indeed what they were sold as. Thank you for your help

It's possible they are mixes like Easter Eggers.

If they are cockerels, you won't be getting any eggs! Since you said they are approx 10 weeks old... they very well could be male. Their combs are pretty red. Typically females stay a pale pink until they're ready to lay.

That would probably be my luck getting all roosters when they were supposed to be Hens. I guess they saw the newbies coming lol

Haha I feel ya! I wouldn't get rid of them yet. People have been surprised before thinking they had little roosters but turned out to be a hen.

Do you only have these 2 chickens?

If so, I will throw some advice... if you end up with 1 cockerel (young male) and 1 pullet (young female), make sure to get more pullets. The ratio for cockerel to pullet needs to be much higher. I have 1 cockerel and 11 pullets. That way the cockerel doesn't harass and over-breed the pullet. She could get hurt. Or just get rid of him and keep only pullets.
