Hello! I have been utilizing BYC for several years and decided I wanted to join the community.
I write you this as I sit drinking my morning coffee and holding my five week old Silkie, Violet. Right now we have 12 birds. Six are fully grown, laying hens (three Ameraucanas, two Brahmas & one Silver Laced Wyandotte) & six are Violet's age in the brooder (four Blue Silkies, one Millie Bantam & one Barnvelder).
My parents gave me my first flock for my 30th birthday and I have been in love since. Chicken keeping is more like an extension of your family into the backyard. These birds are my babies and my pride & joy. I love saying 'good morning!' when I let them out for the day. Thanking them everyday for their hard work laying eggs and keeping my backyard pest free. Rewarding them with a little healthy treat every once and a while. They race to find me when they hear my voice and it makes my heart melt. I want chickens in my life for the rest of my days.
My other hobbies include gardening (which the girls love to help with), cooking, reading & spending time in nature. Of late, I've started getting back into arts & crafts with the quarentine and all. Getting some sewing done, cross stitching, & drawing my cats (chickens are a little harder but I'll get there!)
We have one Himalayan rescue kitty named Boomer. She lets the girls do their own thing (I think she's scared but you won't hear her say that).
I first stumbled upon BYC with my first flock and have been referring to it when I have questions. Today, I decided to join the community because I thought it would be fun! Thanks for listening to my story and look forward to hearing from you soon!
