Yay! A place where everybody talks about chickens!!! Huzzah! We've always wanted chickens, and this spring, we built a coop and got 8 little chicks.
4 Rhode island reds (Una, Lady, Matilda, and Fattie Lumpkin), 2 white orpingtons (Irena and Camilla) and 2 red stars (Bernard and Norbert). They all grew up into lovely hens that lay big brown eggs, and they are like my children. For them, I give them fresh water in the freezing Colorado cold, clean out their chicken coop, let them roam about the property during the day, paint thier coop a lovely bright green, and (literally) chase away foxes. That's how much I love my chickens. I'm sure everyone else thinks I'm crazy, but who isn't? Being a first-time chicken farmer, I'm pretty excited to have so many people to help us along the way. Glad to be here.
