Hello everyone, I've been reading the forum for a while and I decided it was a good time to join. Now, for the proper introduction:

1) I am fairly new to chickens, I didn't really plan on having them, the person who lived in this house left behind their chickens when they moved and so I started to care for them and one thing led to another, now we have a very small flock. I had to learn the basics very quickly and I'm starting to look into some more advanced info since I want to give them the best possible life.

2) It's a small family of 20 chickens, maybe next year I will add some. There are 5 girls who should be around three maybe four years old. There are 3 rescued chickens from an intensive egg farm (not sure that's the correct name, English is not my first language), they should be possibly two years old but I've checked this forum and I would say they look much older. We have 5 white babies, they are around three months old, and 3 brown ones same age (we have no idea of the breeds because they were given to us by a friend who hatched too many); I suspect two of the browns to be roosters. And finally, we have 4 brahma babies, 2 months old.

3) As for the breeds, I am only sure about the Brahmas, the others arrived to me so randomly and I'm not good enough to identify them.

4) I found chickens to be very funny animals and much smarter than I gave them credit for. They are lovely, they can show affection, and have generally a calm attitude.

5) I cook. I cook a lot. I bake as much. I am a gamer when I have time (not much anymore since I live in a farm).

6) The family is just me, my husband, 4 cats (all girls), 2 dogs (also girls, one was also left by the person who lived here before), a big spider (my husband's so I don't know much about her).

7) I found BYC because I was looking info on how to check if a chickling is female or male, common illnesses, all the basics I did not know. I decided to join because this forum is really helping me going through some symptoms and problems in my babies and vets around here are not as much for treating the hens, more for culling them.

Welcome. Thank you for your dedication to saving chickens and giving them a good life. I am here to help you as needed.
