Hello I'm from sacramento California , I just started my journey with raise baby chicks 10 weeks ago. My boyfriend came pver one day and brought me 2 baby chicks and organic pride starter food and a feeder and water holder . so Started with 2 ,my boyfriend started to build a small baby chicken coop , then got alot more, I have 14 older chicks that are few months old, and 14 baby chicks.
I love my chickens most of them have a name
that ones that don't yet are just baby's and they look the same. This journey has changed my life in a amazing way, brought so much joy and hope into my life.
Yet some chicks have died . Her name was sunshine she died from cold she got wet , bute and my boyfriend decided to buy another hick just like her to replace the lost and we it and we still called it sunshine, then a wild chicken that isn't anyone has layed eggs into backyard and I took a baby from her named it Samuel, He's still alive, then one of my chick called zebra it was over 7 weeks old broke its leg. Couldn't eat or drink or walk so I took care of it , but over time it just kept suffering so my boyfriend had to put it down,but we replaced him also , got the same chick just a different color . then another chicken layed a lot of eggs in my backyard and we took about 12 chicks from the hen so that she would sit on her other eggs so they hatch as well , 8 of them died, 2 from being wet and cold, 3 from being squeezed by the cage . And other 3 not sure just died and 1 died today and my boyfriend cut his stomach open to see why it died and it had a lot of the wooden chips in it because it ate it , we bought the wooden chips to keep the chicks clean a week ago but they started eating it. The chicks from the hen outside that we took the 12 of them had poop stuck on their stomach because they would sleep on it because there where not the wooden chips but when I did buy it they ate it so today I roved the wooden chips. So I have 4 chicks left from the wild chicken that we took. We didn't name them yet because they are all alike , yesterday I bought 5 new chicks 3 silkies and one with the very long tail, and one with the Afro head. Of plus last week we had to put sunshine jr down she kept have poop stuck to her and her feathers got all ruined because of the poop so she became bold by her private place and got some kind if a bump there and she would always be so sleepy all day and would be alone so we put her down. But I love my flock of chickens so much it's intense I never thought I would love any type of animals but I do I love chickens! And I am excited for this journey to continue
