I have a question ?
My senior Wyandotte had a problem getting up off the ground in the run two or three days before the end of February. I told hubby about her so he would know. Anyone know why she was having a hard time getting up off the ground in the run? She finally got up and went into the coop with the rest of them. About noon the next day hubby went to check on her and she had passed around noon. He said she was still warm to the touch but was gone. Ms Wyandotte/Grandma. Does anyone know what was wrong with her legs? She passed on February 28. She was 10 years and 6 months old. She was the last golden laced Wyandotte in 2012 and she gave us days prior a 2-2-1/2 long egg. These first hens always gave us big eggs. RIP Grandma. She is my avatar.

At 10 years old and struggling to get up she sounds like she just passed of old age. Usually when an animal starts to pass from old age they go from fine one day to struggling to move overnight. 10 years is quite old for a hen you should be very proud that you were able to give her such a long and full life. I’m sorry for your loss❤️

Sorry for your loss. She probably just died of old age. That is about the age I have lost hens who lived long lives. When I lose a chicken earlier in life, I like to do a necropsy on them to look at their organs, just to see if I can spot any possible causes of death. It is good to take pictures of major organs to post here for help in identifying anything abnormal. Some don’t like to do this, but it helps in knowing what was wrong. But in your case, she probably just was ready.

Thank you all. We were thinking about that. I just thought maybe something wrong with her legs and feet. She has been a great Grandma to a few of the new girls the last few years.
