Carolina Hen
In the Brooder
Hi Everyone! I’m excited to be a new member, but I’m not new to keeping chickens. We built a coop a few years back, while living in a Western state, and had some productive laying hens, on a city lot, but relocated back to NC where we purchased a house on 1+ acre with an incredible pasture view. We currently have a beautiful, xeric flower garden completed, with lots of coneflowers, salvias, crepe myrtles, and pink muhly grass, and have been working hard to transform the property into a little “farmette”. But it’s waaaay past time to get some sweet chickens pecking and clucking again around here! We’re looking forward to building a pretty little coop (fox-proof, hopefully!) in the spring, and getting it ready for our new “girls”, as well as building some raised beds for organic vegetables. Our goal is to offset the cost of organic eggs and vegetables, by growing our own, since we have such a long growing season here, and we sure can scarf down those eggs and veggies! We will post pictures in the spring of our progress, and share them on here as we work towards our goal. Thanks for reading, and have an “eggs”cellent day!
