We started with our first chickens about 8 years ago. We got the chicks when they were 2-3 weeks old. Our first flock we had two Barred Rocks and Two Rhode Island Reds. Our second flock we got an 2Americanas, 1 Blue Langshun and another RIRed. Now, for the first time, I am trying my hand at incubating. We live within the city limits, so we are not allowed to have roosters. My husband has a friend who raises chickens, and we got 8 fertilized eggs from him. I started incubating the eggs 22 days ago, and our first chick just hatched about 3 hours ago. I am so excited!!

Welcome to BYC. I don't think I couldn't incubate, raise them, and not fall in love with the roosters. Good luck!
It's so hard. I've pawned off an extra one here or there to those coming for chicks, but we're at 50/50 hens to roosters here. It works. :)

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

Incubating chicks is so fun and glad yours are hatching. I hope you know what you'll do with the roosters though. We have a Buy/Sell forum under the Forums tab, or else I usually use my local and state poultry groups on Facebook.
Hi Debbie292d! My husband’s friend, who we got the fertilized eggs from, said if we hatch any roosters we can take them to him. He belongs to a group that re-homes roosters. I also have a friend that has a little farm, and she said she would be happy to get a rooster. Thank you for the info about the forum tab. I will also keep that in mind.
