I introduced them to my dogs.. They seem to b OK with them..we r teaching them to protect them...
 
Sounds like a good plan! My dog is a pointer and was already about 3-4 when we got our first chickens so was already set in her ways. She is a hunter and is alway stalking birds on the fields! I hope your training is successful!xx
 
I have 4 dogs..1 collie mix and 3 standard poodles..range from 4 mths old to 13 yes old..and never been around chickens but they seem to b OK with them..but of course I'm being on the safe side for now and locking them up when I not here til I know for sure and thank you...
 
Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. Cochins will typically start laying anywhere from 22-28 weeks. They are a wonderful breed; hardy, calm and gentle (my children made lap pets of ours), and great brooders and mothers. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. Which breeds lay the brown eggs..and which r more ept to lay double yolks? We only want brown eggs but don't know which breeds they are..

American class breeds (Buckeyes, Chanteclers, Delawares, Dominiques, Jersey Giants, New Hampshires, Plymouth Rocks, Rhode Island Reds, Rhode Island Whites, Wyandottes, etc.) lay brown eggs, Asiatic class breeds (Cochins, Brahmas, and Langshans) lay brown eggs, English class breeds (Australorps, Cornish, Dorkings, Orpingtons, Redcaps, and Sussex) lay brown eggs, and Red Sex Links (sold under such labels as Red Star, Brown Sex Link, Gold Sex Link, Gold Star, Golden Buff, Cinnamon Queen, Golden Comet, Isa Brown, Warrens, Lohman's Brown, Babcock Brown, Red Shaver, Brown Shaver, Bovans Goldline, etc.) and Black Sex Links (sold under such labels as Black Star, Bovans Nera, and Rock Red) lay brown eggs. In my 50 years experience with the majority of these breeds and hybrids, Black Sex Links (Black Stars) tend to lay the largest eggs with double yolks not being uncommon.
