Hi everyone! *waves wildy* I'm new here.

Nothin in the bator yet. :) It won't be here til Jan 20 or so. I can't wait to try it tho.

I'm not raising any chicks inside. I did that in the early years. I had a small wire type cage that I put up on blocks. Under it I put a trash bag and newspaper. I changed the newspaper daily. :) My dh isn't up for me raising birds inside LOL. I have a wire cage outside hanging on the barnwall for easy access (didn't have time to frame a stand for it) and there's a warm lamp overhead. Our temps here are ANYTHING but cold so I'm not too concerned. I may put something over them should it get freezing or windy. I must say tho, raising them indoors teaches the cats and dogs that they are part of the family. LOL I mean seeing a cat lay around the yard with the chickens is pretty funny.

I sell hatching eggs if you are interested! $12 for 12+ plus $15 shipping for Buff orpingtons. Or bid on my auction!

We had an old barn cat last year that attempted to pounce on a Buff Orp Hen and Roo. That cat got the crud flogged out of it by that hen and the Rooster. It was the funniest thing I have seen a cat do. Them she would hide all morning when I let the chickens out to free range.

LOVE IT! Once we had a rogue rooster that terrorized our, then, 4 year old boy. I took his big 4x4 remote control truck out there and said "watch this." That rooster actually acted like he was going to attack that big old truck. NOT. I put it in high gear and so did the rooster. Poor son laughed so hard he peed his pants. The rooster subsequently left my son alone while he was outside playing.

That's awesome! Roosters are funny. The are very hard to predict sometimes.

If it's okay Nate I'll try to get with you after my bator comes. I have those 30 chicks coming on the heels of that so I don't want to overwhelm myself. I am a stay at home wife/mom/homeschooler so I can get pretty busy at times. :) This is SUPPOSED to be fun. I wanna keep it that way. I would rather buy from folks I meet here and keep the cycle going, kwim?
