First time poster, long time lover of this page. I got these two mallard ducks a couple of months ago. They live with 9 chickens who are also about the same age. Everyone gets along great. I want to know what sex they are before winter hits.they don't really make any noise(the roster and chickens seem to drown them out maybe), even when I pick them up. They sound different but both kinda just peep. One kinda high the other low. One has a dark bill the other a yellowish. I want to know before winter cause if they are both boys I was gonna get a couple girls and raise them in the house over winter to introduce them when they are bigger.

Welcome!!!

Sexing young ducks can be difficult... sounds like their voices might not have changed yet, but should be around that time... I believe pure mallard males do get green bills, but take that with a grain of salt cuz I have 2 with different colored bills and they're both female, lol...

This should help you...

Otherwise they should start molting out their juvie feathers soon and you'll be able to see the different adult feathers and drake feathers for boys... good luck! :)

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. I'm a chicken person, but I have to admit that ducklings are the ultimate in cute. X2 on our Duck section, and if you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is loads of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.
