I'm brand new to BYC - hi everyone!
I have 2 Buff Orpingtons, 2 Barred Rocks, 2 Easter Eggers, 1 Australorp, 2 black French Black Copper Marans, and 1 white French Black Copper Marans that are all about 1 1/2 years old. I have a 2 month old Bielefelder/Red Orpington cross that one of my Buff's hatched, and I have 2 Niederrheiners and 1 Bielefelder that are 1 month old that my mellanistic mutant FBCM hatched.
Even though I am allowed to have a rooster by county ordinance, the noise ordinance makes it near impossible to be able because of complaining neighbors. My solution this year was to buy fertile eggs when I had broody hens, and hope for girls. I got pretty lucky! Out of four hatched, I think I have one little roo - a Niederrhiener. Although I want to have an N hen, my thinking is to sell the pair, boy and girl, to someone who is looking to breed or to add to their flock. I just need to let them get a little bigger to be sure I am right.
Have a safe and happy day!
