I'm brand new to BYC - hi everyone!

I have 2 Buff Orpingtons, 2 Barred Rocks, 2 Easter Eggers, 1 Australorp, 2 black French Black Copper Marans, and 1 white French Black Copper Marans that are all about 1 1/2 years old. I have a 2 month old Bielefelder/Red Orpington cross that one of my Buff's hatched, and I have 2 Niederrheiners and 1 Bielefelder that are 1 month old that my mellanistic mutant FBCM hatched.

Even though I am allowed to have a rooster by county ordinance, the noise ordinance makes it near impossible to be able because of complaining neighbors. My solution this year was to buy fertile eggs when I had broody hens, and hope for girls. I got pretty lucky! Out of four hatched, I think I have one little roo - a Niederrhiener. Although I want to have an N hen, my thinking is to sell the pair, boy and girl, to someone who is looking to breed or to add to their flock. I just need to let them get a little bigger to be sure I am right. :)

Glad you could join the flock! What a lovely mixed flock you have there with some very nice breeds. You never know you may have girls but good luck with rehoming if he does turn out to be a boy. I'm afraid the downside of hatching that you tend to get a fair share of boys. I had my first broody this year (I'm an incubator hatcher) and it was a wonderful experience. Unfortunately of the four eggs she hatched off 3 were boys.

It would be fun to see a picture of your mixed flock if you care to share, you have some birds that are a bit out of the ordinary (at least to me).

Thank you, Yorkshire coop! I feel good that someone will take the pair because Niederrheiners are so hard to find here. You are right about hatching eggs, but my two girls were broody all spring, and didn't let up, so I finally gave them some eggs to hatch in July and August. It was so much fun. I'm fairly new to chicken keeping, and was fretting about chick food and all kids of things. It was all for naught. Those broody mamas had them eating mealworms in no time and sleeping up on the roost at a month old.

This is Petunia, the Bielefelder (she is one month old) with a Niederrheiner tush behind her.

This is Blanca, the four-year-old Easter Egger I adopted from my neighbor. The bobcat got all her other chickens and we didn't want Blanca to die of loneliness!

This is Panzer the Bielefelder/Red Orpington cross. She is two months old.

The Niederrheiner chicks love spinach! They are a month old.

Here is the Australorp, Mustard (an Easter Egger), the two Barred Rocks, a sliver of one of my Buffs (Harriet), and Blanca's tush.

This is Henrietta (the Buff who hatched Panzer) and one of the Barred Rocks. With the Australorp and an FBCM behind them.
