Hey guys!
I'm new to this page but not chicken raising! I'd love to know how I'd start raising my own (I haven't hatched any myself) I have only ever bought chicks and used their eggs for food. I'd love to raise chicks from eggs and up. I would love to know what I'd need, or am I thinking too hard on this and it's simpler then I have in my head? Lol thanks everyone!

Howdy! Welcome to BYC. I don't hatch my own eggs as my personality is a bit.....well......I'd give myself a heart attack if I used an incubator to hatch eggs. I'd fret and worry over every little detail. So I let broodies do the work or let someone else do the hatching for me. I like the book suggestion and there is lots of information on this site to help you out. Sorry, I can't supply the links but my advice is to keep it simple, use a hardy breed (and cheaper breeds) until you get your technique. Have fun!

Welcome!

Sorry, I have no incubator experience and stick to broody hens. However, as you have already received links to some good starting points, I will just wish you all the best.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out

Thanks everyone! I wonder if I mark a few eggs (to know which ones I'm hatching) and see if my hens will hatch them without using an incubator. I will definitely be looking into the links and we have a library pretty close to!
