Hello All! Thanks for the accept. I am still pretty new to this whole chicken business. I have had my girls since July 4th. Well, the big girls anyway. I started with 3 that were a birthday gift from my daughter. They have grown 8. The older girls, we were told were Red Star, they aren't. Pretty sure they are just cross breeds of some type. That's alright. I also have some Black Hoover, Jersey Giants and will be picking up a Salmon Faverolle and Blue Orpington in a few days. I also have a few Leghorns that were freebies but those are soon going to freezer camp. I have managed to drag my husband kicking and screaming into my chicken addiction and often find him outside talking to the girls and giving them treats. So now he's updating coop and installing lights for winter as well as a camera so we can keep an eye on them at night. We have 3 human kids, 2 boys, 1 girl, that have all flown the coop, the oldest is going to be 29 this year, the younger two are 25-no, not twins. I was lucky enough to get 2 free gifts when I married my husband-his boys. So his youngest son and my daughter are only a month apart in age. Pretty cool! We also have a 10 year old grandson. We are outside folk for as long as Wisconsin summer allows..this year it was on a Tuesday! It just seems way too short..and gets shorter every year. I've never been much for cold and snow. So anyway..that's a bit about us and our chicks..thanks again for letting us join! Looking forward to learning!

When you get your new birds, don't forget to isolate them for at least a couple weeks so you can be sure they don't pass something on to your current birds. You might want to read up on integration too before the new ones come home with you (if you haven't already).

Best of luck to you!

G’Day from down under Jeanieb7471 :frow Welcome!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your intro, thank you.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

Personally, I have found the Topic of the Week articles a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group. There is a thread/discussion on integration in the Topic of the Week you might find interesting.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)
