This will be my second batch of chickens (my husband and I had a little mishap with some predators last year :( so this year they will be much safer!)

We are planning on getting four chicks... and by four I mean six. Maybe eight?

I keep on forgetting the breed names, but I know I'm getting a Barred Rock, a Brahma, and not sure what else!
My friend Hannah introduced me to Backyard Chickens - Hi Hannah!! So excited to be here!

I am a full time school teacher - I teach first grade right now and would love to one day hatch little chickies with my students!

I am married to a great guy named John, he's a firefighter in our area. We adopted a ten year old cat and named her Nancy... she immediately had to have 11 teeth pulled. Oh well :)

We plan on getting a puppy this summer and am excited to introduce them to the chickens! We live in a somewhat rural, somewhat residential neighborhood, so I am planning to make a full garden area, keep chickens, and maybe a goat? Who knows!

So excited to share chicken tips and tricks!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

Including your general location on your profile will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

BYC has a Learning Centre and also Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out. These two may be of particular interest to you:
Topic of the Week - Keeping the Flock Safe from Predators
Topic of the Week - Dogs and chickens

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock or other critters, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)
